We are part of an international community of urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and further developed by his son and lineage holder Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

Our center, located two blocks behind the Parroquia in the heart of San Miguel Centro, offers a variety of weekly meditation programs and occassional weekend events.

Throughout the year we offer various programs of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, as well as advanced meditation practices.

Shambhala vision is rooted in the contemplative teachings of Buddhism, yet is a fresh expression of the spiritual journey for our time. We invite you to explore our diverse programs designed to help people of all traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humor.

The practice of meditation gathers, centers, and calms the mind. It allows one to see through the mind’s conditioning and thereby live more fully in the present moment.

The SMA Meditation Community is an open, flowing collection of people from different traditions (including various Buddhist lineages) who share a love of sitting in silence. We also share a love of spiritual community free of doctrine or belief, based in equality and mutual respect. Everyone is welcome. Because friendships with like-minded people support the inner path, we usually meet informally after sittings to share ideas and come to know one another.

Although the forty-minute silent meditations begin at 10:10 and end at 10:50, please feel free to come and go quietly at any time. Meditation assistance is available before or after the sit.

For more in-depth meditation instruction, ask Ann Barden (Vipassana) or Jerry Steward (general) at jermer@hotmail.com, 154-0877.

All offerings are free, donations welcome. For more information or to be on our mailing list, contact: SMAMC@lifepathretreats.com

Qi Gong - A gentle movement practice for everybody -- and every body. Learn this easy way to calm the mind and heal your body.

Qi Gong, pronounced “Tchi Kong”, is a cousin of Tai Chi Chuan and is also part of one of the five branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It means “control (or work) of the energy".The practice consists of slow and non-violent movements, combined with breath exercises and concentration of the mind. Thanks to the breath work, this thousand-year-old discipline helps the circulation of energy through the body. The regular practice of Qi Gong calms and relaxes the mind. It reinforces the neuromuscular system and makes it more flexible. It optimizes the functions of the organism and sustains the strength of self-recovery. It guarantees good health and vitality.A practice for everybody, regardless of sex, religion, age or physical condition.Drop-ins welcome

We have always wanted to be happy. All of us, animals and humans.
We have sought happiness in rest, our couple, beaches, money, family, possessions, occasional solitude, entertainment, rituals, study, health, sports, parties, friends, work and ... we have found very enjoyable moments, but unfortunately impermanent. They disappear suddenly or are interrupted by problems and disappointments continually.
Buddha explains the secret of happiness as something more internal and something we can control, because the outside world is impossible to control permanently. His practical tips are deep and suitable for everyone, Buddhist and non-Buddhist, youth, adults, men, women, old, rich and poor ... Come to the Biblioteca de San Miguel to listen to a Mexican Buddhist nun Kelsang Sangshe, simple, cheerful and clearly explains weekly the secret to discover and maintain the complete happiness for yourself and others.
Join us every Monday at Gloria Grant Room from 5 to 6:30 pm. Donation: $ 50 pesos.

Donativo: $50 pesos.

Spontaneity is the hallmark of Doug´s painting style. His unique, impressionistic painting approach has been stingily influenced and inspired by the art of John Singer Sargent and the teachings of Edgar Whitney.
He is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), a Past-President of the Central Ontario Art Association (COAA) and a member of the Ontario Plein Air Society (OPAS).
In addition to finding time for his “fine art”, Doug spends a good part of the year conducting watercolor workshops in Canada and Europe.

The Most Evil Man in History?

By David Johanssen

Francisco Pizarro was the storm crow and harbinger that brought about the destruction of the Inca Civilization. In 1528 the Incan king Huayna Capac passed away and two of his sons, Atahualpa and Huáscar fought for their father’s title, for four years, a bloody civil war raged over the Empire and in 1532 Atahualpa emerged victorious. It was at this precise moment, when the Empire was in ruins that Pizarro and his men showed up: they were able to defeat the weakened Inca armies and exploit the social rifts that had caused the war. Were the advantages of the Spaniards simply geographic as the renowned author Jared Dimond proposes: guns, germs and steel, or did the Spaniards have cultural and genetic advantages as well?

Join us for a documentary and discussion on this compelling topic Tuesday February 3rd at 5 pm as we present Guns, Germs and Steel: Conquest of the Incas. 50 pesos.

Volunteers needed

To provide spiritual strength to alleviate the feeling of isolation and loneliness by means of providing social interaction in their weekly lunch serving physical and spiritual food.

We value their belief and respect their human dignity and help restore hope in the last portion of their life.

Is a charitable organization founded in February 1989 . Each Wednesday for the past 23 years something very unique and empowering takes place in the sunny courtyard behind the Parroquia. Long tables covered with red and white checkered tablecloths are set up under laurel trees.

The tables are numbered according to age 65-95; the elders will be served fírst. Before the food is served, their thin old voices are lifted in a song of gratitude...

RECYCLE ART with Cameron Hockenson

With Artist Cameron Hockenson, take your ideas for sculpture from imagination to reality with recycled and found materials. Each student will be working with recycled materials that may include: paper, cardboard, juice and milk boxes, glass, plastic bottles, plastic bags.

With these materials in mind, we will work from two dimensions to three dimensions to create sculpture. With thumbnail sketches, drawings, and quick study models, ideas will be developed into more complex forms at a larger scale. We will then create a final project in the studio, and create a collaborative installation on the campus grounds. Art work may be inspired by local traditions or address community issues. This creative process is useful across a range of artistic disciplines for sculpture, installation, public art, architecture, furniture, and set design. Students will find that it is possible to create rich and expressive work with relatively few resources at hand. .

WATERCOLOR DEMONSTRATION/LECTUR “Painting with Spontaneity” with Canadian Watercolor artist Doug Mays.

Cost $200.00 pesos per class (class cost goes to CULTIVARTE charity, teaching art to communities).
Canadian Watercolor Artist/Instructor
Spontaneity is the hallmark of Doug´s painting style. His unique, impressionistic painting approach has been stingily influenced and inspired by the art of John Singer Sargent and the teachings of Edgar Whitney.
He is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC), a Past-President of the Central Ontario Art Association (COAA) and a member of the Ontario Plein Air Society (OPAS).
In addition to finding time for his “fine art”, Doug spends a good part of the year conducting watercolor workshops in Canada and Europe.
Doug`s paintings can be viewed on his website at www.arrowsinthequiver.com
