The practice of meditation gathers, centers, and calms the mind. It allows one to see through the mind’s conditioning and thereby live more fully in the present moment.

The SMA Meditation Community is an open, flowing collection of people from different traditions (including various Buddhist lineages) who share a love of sitting in silence. We also share a love of spiritual community free of doctrine or belief, based in equality and mutual respect. Everyone is welcome. Because friendships with like-minded people support the inner path, we usually meet informally after sittings to share ideas and come to know one another.

Although the forty-minute silent meditations begin at 10:10 and end at 10:50, please feel free to come and go quietly at any time. Meditation assistance is available before or after the sit.

For more in-depth meditation instruction, ask Ann Barden (Vipassana) or Jerry Steward (general) at jermer@hotmail.com, 154-0877.

All offerings are free, donations welcome. For more information or to be on our mailing list, contact: SMAMC@lifepathretreats.com

Qi Gong, pronounced “Tchi Kong”, is a cousin of Tai Chi Chuan and is also part of one of the five branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It means “control (or work) of the energy".The practice consists of slow and non-violent movements, combined with breath exercises and concentration of the mind. Thanks to the breath work, this thousand-year-old discipline helps the circulation of energy through the body. The regular practice of Qi Gong calms and relaxes the mind. It reinforces the neuromuscular system and makes it more flexible. It optimizes the functions of the organism and sustains the strength of self-recovery. It guarantees good health and vitality.A practice for everybody, regardless of sex, religion, age or physical condition.Drop-ins welcome

To provide spiritual strength to alleviate the feeling of isolation and loneliness by means of providing social interaction in their weekly lunch serving physical and spiritual food.

We value their belief and respect their human dignity and help restore hope in the last portion of their life.

Is a charitable organization founded in February 1989 . Each Wednesday for the past 23 years something very unique and empowering takes place in the sunny courtyard behind the Parroquia. Long tables covered with red and white checkered tablecloths are set up under laurel trees.

The tables are numbered according to age 65-95; the elders will be served fírst. Before the food is served, their thin old voices are lifted in a song of gratitude...

The Longhorn Smokehouse Bar & Grill was started in 2006 by Keith Thompson, an Englishman with a love for Texas BBQ.

Keith moved to San Miguel after a 25+ year stint in Houston, Texas. Although cooking wasn't his profession while in Texas, he certainly had a knack for it...and for throwing a good party (it's true, just ask any of his friends). It was always his dream to open a bar and restaurant, and San Miguel offered him this opportunity.

Keith took his talents to San Miguel after falling in love with the town in 2005. An avid Texas Longhorns fan (daughter Kerri is a UT Austin alum), the name of the restaurant was a "no-brainer." His BBQ is the product of years of hard work -- the ribs are moist, the beef is top notch and the key lime pie is divine.

Keith's motto is "If you go away hungry or thirsty, it's your own fault"

We are part of an international community of urban meditation and rural retreat centers founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and further developed by his son and lineage holder Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

Our center, located two blocks behind the Parroquia in the heart of San Miguel Centro, offers a variety of weekly meditation programs and occassional weekend events.

Throughout the year we offer various programs of Buddhist and Shambhala teachings, as well as advanced meditation practices.

Shambhala vision is rooted in the contemplative teachings of Buddhism, yet is a fresh expression of the spiritual journey for our time. We invite you to explore our diverse programs designed to help people of all traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humor.

san miguel de allende directory

Two intellectual conversation groups started up in San Miguel in mid-January 2014 – one at Hecho en Mexico (now at El Cielito Lindo), and the other at the Biblioteca. The basic idea behind the two groups was to allow people to meet in a relatively small group (about a dozen on average) and discuss any topic that the group wants to consider. This could include such diverse topics as feminism, overpopulation, equality, sustainable development and environmental degradation, abortion laws, same sex marriage, immigration, and the like. Usually, there are several topics discussed. The rules of the groups permit everyone to participate and comment. The Biblioteca group unfortunately dissolved, but the one at El Cielito Lindo is still going and is looking for more participants. There is usually a core group that attends, but new people with new ideas are always welcome, and the conversation moves on briskly. If you enjoy a good conversation, you can participate – and you can suggest topics as well. If you are interested in attending, contact Michael Hertz (mmmickey55@yahoo.com for the El Cielito Lindo meeting) and he'll put you on the mailing list for future meetings.

Regularly scheduled tours take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Groups form in the Jardin across from the Parroquia (large church) at 9:45 AM, and leave promptly at 10:00 AM.

Qi Gong - A gentle movement practice for everybody -- and every body. Learn this easy way to calm the mind and heal your body.

10:00am-11:00am
