The practice of meditation gathers, centers, and calms the mind. It allows one to see through the mind’s conditioning and thereby live more fully in the present moment.

The SMA Meditation Community is an open, flowing collection of people from different traditions (including various Buddhist lineages) who share a love of sitting in silence. We also share a love of spiritual community free of doctrine or belief, based in equality and mutual respect. Everyone is welcome. Because friendships with like-minded people support the inner path, we usually meet informally after sittings to share ideas and come to know one another.

Although the forty-minute silent meditations begin at 10:10 and end at 10:50, please feel free to come and go quietly at any time. Meditation assistance is available before or after the sit.

For more in-depth meditation instruction, ask Ann Barden (Vipassana) or Jerry Steward (general) at jermer@hotmail.com, 154-0877.

All offerings are free, donations welcome. For more information or to be on our mailing list, contact: SMAMC@lifepathretreats.com

We value their belief and respect their human dignity and help restore hope in the last portion of their life.

Is a charitable organization founded in February 1989 . Each Wednesday for the past 23 years something very unique and empowering takes place in the sunny courtyard behind the Parroquia. Long tables covered with red and white checkered tablecloths are set up under laurel trees.

The tables are numbered according to age 65-95; the elders will be served fírst. Before the food is served, their thin old voices are lifted in a song of gratitude...

And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself (2003) on Wednesday, September 28th at 5 pm. Filmed almost entirely in and around San Miguel, this HBO film recounts the odd story of Pancho Villa’s film career when he invited American filmmakers to film his heroic battles against the Mexican government. What results is a surreal film-within-a-film as silent film stars compete with Pancho’s outsized ego (as magnificently portrayed by Antonio Banderas) for the camera’s affection.

Francisco “Pancho” Villa was a Mexican revolutionary leader who advocated for the poor and promised agrarian reform. Though also a ruthless bandit and opportunist, many Mexicans remember him fondly as their ‘Robin Hood’, fighting the dictator Porfirio Diaz. In 1909, Villa was portrayed as a hero in the U.S. media too until Woodrow Wilson withdrew his support in 1916. Outraged, Villa led an army across the border and staged a brutal raid against Columbus, New Mexico. Bandito or hero? You decide, as we explore Hollywood’s love affair with Francisco “Pancho” Villa. All films are in English.

The Meditation Center presents the 24 part Great Courses series Essentials of Tai Chi and Qigong, Part 18, Using the Mind- Inner Organizing Principles, at 5:30, Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the Center, Callejon Blanco #4.

What makes tai chi unique in the world of martial arts and fitness are the principles that guide how the movements are done and what the player is thinking about. In this lecture, you will learn about five of the most fundamental and traditional principles: yin/yang, empty/full, softness/hardness, alignment, and mind/not strength.

These principles are set down in the tai chi classics and in the oral tradition passing from teachers to students. These are the core assumptions explaining the mechanism behind a phenomenon or experience. For example, gravity is the primary organizing principle of matter in the universe. Natural selection is the basic organizing principle of species diversity. Tai chi principles are the foundation of what makes tai chi work. They are never-ending. Even if you could capture all the principles in a book, you could still spend a lifetime exploring the depth of their meaning.

The first and most fundamental is combining yin and yang. These two concepts represent mirror images as aspects of just about anything we can imagine. The philosophy of tai chi looks at all the problems of our lives as an imbalance of yin and yang. Therefore, the practice is meant to establish, maintain or restore the balance of yin and yang, like giving each equal time. When you allow this to happen, you start to feel the harmony.

The second most unique principle is that of empty and full. Although another pairing like yin and yang, this case refers to the presence or absence of something. The classic exam

A weekly series featuring local and international talent!

Behind the Scene is more than just live music or original art, it is a way to get to know more about artists and musicians here in San Miguel and beyond.

Lady Zen will be hosting, she will ask each of the artists five questions, to dive deeper into their work and also have a little fun! Musicians will perform their original music, visual artists will present their medium, and dancers will perform an originally choreographed piece.

The intimate setting of Plata will give a chance to meet and get to know these artists and their work in a way that is unique and personal. Each week we will invite different individuals to be a part of the event!

Interested in showing your original work? Email us at sma.plata.73@gmail.com

Sundays at 9am
We play at the diportiva just up from Mega, and in front of the entrance to Los Frailes.

A paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

The Basics
1. A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.
2. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net.
3. Played with a paddle and a plastic ball.

A Game for Everyone
The USAPA currently estimates there are now over 400,000 players actively playing pickleball.
